Profile
PhD researcher in Business Analytics and Operations Management at Sabanci Business
School, with a background in industrial engineering. My research develops mathematical
models for operational decision-making under uncertainty — combining robust optimization,
stochastic programming, and integer programming. Application domains
include healthcare operations, logistics, sustainable supply chains, and remanufacturing systems. I
am particularly interested in problems where the coupling of multiple resource types
under uncertainty generates structural complexity that mathematical formulations are
uniquely positioned to address.

Robust Optimization for Integrated Healthcare Scheduling
Jan 2026 Supervisor: Dr. Burak Gökgür
Formulated a multi-resource MILP with budgeted uncertainty sets (Bertsimas & Sim) in
Python and Gurobi to jointly optimize surgical case planning and nurse-to-patient
assignment. Quantified the Price of Robustness across a Γ sweep, demonstrating that
modest conservatism eliminates nurse workload violations during demand spikes with
minimal throughput cost.
The Integrated Healthcare Timetabling Problem — A Systematic Review
Oct 2025 PhD Summer Paper · Supervisor: Dr. Can Akkan
Synthesized 50+ papers on Patient Admission Scheduling, Surgical Case Planning, and
Nurse-to-Room Assignment, tracing the field from foundational metaheuristics to modern
robust and stochastic formulations. Developed an integration taxonomy and identified
the open gap between fully integrated models and uncertainty-aware planning.
Next-Basket Prediction using Bidirectional Transformers
Jun 2025 Supervisor: Dr. Yücel Saygın
Developed a progressive enhancement framework for e-commerce recommendation,
replacing a GRU baseline with a BERT4Rec bidirectional Transformer and structured
data augmentation. Achieved a 4× improvement in Recall@10 on the Retail Rocket
dataset; isolated the contribution of architecture versus augmentation through
controlled ablation.
Proactive Environmental Strategies and Supply Chain Performance
Jun 2025 Supervisor: Dr. Melek Akın Ateş
Applied PLS-SEM (SmartPLS) to survey data from Turkish manufacturing firms to test
how customer pressure and organizational commitment drive proactive environmental
strategies, and how those strategies mediate the path to environmental investment
outcomes. Full mediation confirmed across both antecedents.
Customer Lifetime Value Assessment via Weighted K-Means Clustering
Jan 2025 Supervisor: Dr. Kemal Kılıç
Integrated RFM behavioral scoring with CLV-weighted K-Means clustering on a
2,239-customer grocery dataset. CLV weighting produced tighter, better-separated
segments (lower SSE, higher Silhouette Score) and correctly split the Loyal Customers
group by future value — a distinction invisible to standard RFM classification.

MSc Thesis — Multi-objective Robust Optimization for Remanufacturing Systems
Sep 2021 Supervisor: Dr. Ahmad Makui
Developed and solved a multi-period, multi-objective robust MILP for hybrid
manufacturing and remanufacturing planning under simultaneous uncertainty in return
quality, processing times, and demand. NSGA-II outperformed MOPSO across all
Pareto-frontier quality metrics. Validated on an industrial case study, achieving a
14% reduction in total cost and 10% reduction in environmental impact relative to the
deterministic baseline.
Blockchain-Based Verification Frameworks for Supply Chain Transparency
Jan 2023 Supervisor: Dr. Morteza Ghomi-Avili
Analysed a blockchain-enabled closed-loop supply chain framework combining IoT/RFID
traceability, smart contract governance, and multi-objective fuzzy network
optimization. Examined how tamper-evident ledgers convert sustainability commitments
into auditable, self-executing supply chain governance.
Large-Scale Optimization of Healthcare Logistics via Benders Decomposition
Dec 2019 Supervisor: Dr. Hadi Sahebi
Implemented a Benders decomposition scheme in GAMS for blood supply chain network
design — master problem on strategic facility decisions, subproblem on operational
flows subject to perishability and stochastic demand. Cut management achieved
near-optimal solutions at a fraction of the monolithic MILP solve time.
Review of Data-Driven Robust Optimization Methodologies
Dec 2019 Supervisor: Dr. Mir Saman Pishvaee
Surveyed major data-driven robust optimization frameworks — including uncertainty set
construction from empirical data, distributionally robust approaches, and
sample-average approximation — and evaluated their applicability to supply chain and
production planning problems.
Analytical Approaches in Multi-Modal Transportation Systems
Jun 2019 Supervisor: Dr. Mahdi Hosseini-Motlagh
Reviewed optimization and analytical methods for multi-modal transportation planning,
examining trade-offs between cost, service level, and environmental impact in
integrated freight and logistics networks.
Discrete-Event Simulation for Transportation System Performance Analysis
Jan 2019 Supervisor: Dr. Kamran Shahanaghi
Built an Arena discrete-event simulation of a multi-stage transportation system,
generating utilization profiles, queue-length distributions, and throughput sensitivity
curves. Identified that the binding bottleneck was the stage with the highest
utilization–variance product, not the highest mean utilization — a finding invisible
to deterministic network models.
